State-Level Push for Intelligent Speed Adaptation
Efforts to address excessive speeding are gaining momentum at the state level. Lawmakers in Arizona, California, Georgia, Maryland, New York, Virginia, and Washington are considering measures that would require Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) technology for repeat speeding offenders. Washington, DC passed its own ISA legislation last year. ISA technology, which limits a vehicle’s speed to posted limits, has been proven effective in preventing speed-related crashes.
These state bills aim to curb reckless driving by ensuring that habitual speeders - particularly those with multiple violations in commercial vehicles - are required to have ISA installed in the vehicles. IST has been working with state safety advocates and policymakers to support these efforts and encourage the adoption of ISA legislation nationwide. These bills are part of an increased focus on safety legislation on the state level that we will be seeing throughout the year. We will continue to monitor them and provide updates as they move through the legislative process.
