IST Analysis
The Institute for Safer Trucking publishes fact sheets summarizing truck safety statistics. The following facts are based on our analysis of the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).
FARS is a census of fatal crashes within the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, dating back to 1975. Any crash involving a motor vehicle traveling on a public road that results in a death within 30 days is included in FARS.
The IST Data Visualization Tool can help you get a better understanding of truck crash fatalities that have occurred from 2010 to 2020 (the most recent year of available data). We are constantly improving this powerful resource and hope to continue updating it with even more filters.
